Nuke 'em til they glow, then shoot them in the dark!

Back in the day, when I was doing a lot of gaming, as well as serving in the military, the above served often as a colorful means of advocating the use of overwhelming force. It also speaks of follow through, of using every means at one's disposal to secure victory.

Today, the "nuclear option" is a hot topic again. Not that we're talking about using real atomic weapons. Nah, nothing so mundane. What's really being discussed is, brace yourself, changing the parliementary rules in the Senate.

whew! That's sure was scary. Here I was, thinking that maybe it was time to start teaching the kids how to duck and cover again! Well, maybe next year, or better yet, not.

Does our little nuke'em advice bear any wisdom for our distinguished Senators? As they say in the home state of the former, unlamented legislator Tom Daschle, "you betcha!" The Republicans in the Senate should nuke the obstructionists, and then (metaphorically speaking of course), shoot them in the dark. Annihilate the wall of obstruction, put every nominee to a vote and push 'em through. Steamroll the obstructionists everywhere they attempt to make a stand. Hammer them mercilessly in the press, especially in their home states, for their obstructionism. Boot them off committees, take away their frequent flyer cards, make them park in the Outer Mongolian parking lots, change the locks on the Senate gym, shut off the airconditioning in their offices, stop stocking their favorite French bottled water, cheese, and trained monkeys at the Senate restaraunt.

Is such a response unprecedented? Yup, but then, so is the behavior of the obstructionists. Start with the leaders, Reid, Boxer, Kennedy, Biden, etc. Today, the Democrat obstructionists and their media shills are yammering about how Frist won't compromise, won't reach across the aisle, yada yada yada. What they fail to voice is this: Republicans could have lowered the boom in January, but didn't, giving the Dems a chance to come to the bargaining table. The Dems haven't, so now they should pay the price.

After 4 years of relentless attacks on the President, after the character assassination of Trent Lott, with the current slime campaign against DeLay and stonewalling of Bolton, its time for the Senate Republican's to do more than ponder their navels. Its time to apply the Powell Doctrine to Senate procedure.

Overwhelming force, aka, "nuke 'em til they glow, then shoot them in the dark."

Ahh, a blog. Now what?

Well, I've finally done it, started my own blog. Not much else to say at the moment, other than "hiya" to anybody who may actually stumble across this.
